Whether you have decided to adopt your stepchild or adopt another child, our firm can assist you through the legal process of adopting the child.  There are numerous requirements under the law which you will have to meet.

In order to adopt a child, the child must have been living with you for at least six months prior to the adoption being granted.  Additionally, a home study must be conducted and a post home study must be conducted.  These studies can be combined into one study in certain circumstances.  An attorney ad-litem must also be appointed.  The attorney ad-litem represents the child in the proceedings.

The proceeding will terminate the biological parent’s or presumed father’s parental rights, unless this has already occurred.  The biological parent can voluntary relinquish their rights or the court can terminate their parental rights involuntary depending on the circumstances.

By adopting a child, you will be accepting full responsibilities and duties over the child.
